This lens comes from the same period as the 35mm Summicron Bokeh king and shares many similarities in terms of image quality. Rendering is classic with a pleasant glow wide open, becoming much more modern-looking as you stop down
 
The 40mm F2 was intended for the CL range of cameras but is compatible with the M lineup, making a great 35mm alternative for a fraction of the price
 
Optically there is some dust which doesn't affect image quality, otherwise it is impeccable, no haze/fungus present. The aperture blades are clean of any contaminants and move as intended
 
Focus is buttery smooth throughout the range with no dry spots
 
Condition-wise everything is tight and optics are importantly spot on, however you should note there is some slight wear to the barrel as to be expected for a lens of this vintage
